Problem
Shopping in a group can be a difficult thing because you have to split the shopping list to all the people equally taking into account the budget allocated to each person and that can be a real challenge sometimes. Also, some product's prices change often and if we want to save some money we should keep track of price changes over time in various stores and this requires a lot of time and energy.

Customer segment
Given the fact that our app tries to combat the old-fashioned way of tracking down the items that need to be bought using pen and paper, the customer segment that we are targeting is the young man/ woman with ages ranging from 18 years old to 35 years old.

Advantage over competition
All the main competitors of our app lack the option of calculating the cost that users have to pay in order to purchase their share of products when using the group shopping feature. Furthermore, all the apps listed above lack a friendly user interface which clearly makes the young audience keep scrolling.

Cost structure
- Hardware maintenance
- Marketing
- Services
- QA

Our Solution
Our solution consists in a mobile application that is able to manage group shopping, keep track of product's prices over time and calculate the user's total spendings. Users can visualize in real time products purchased by other users in the group, group total spendings and user spendings for all the members in the group. Users can monitor the price evolution of a product over time, based on all the other users' purchases of the same product.

Milestone 5

To promote the application on Facebook, we created a page where we distributed our product's landing page. The promotion of the post and the page took place through Facebook ads and distribution in groups.

The post had 24 engagements, it reached 375 people and had only 7 link clicks.

From the ads, people did not interact more, even if the ads reached 294 people, only one person accessed the link.
The post was distributed to different categories of groups to observe the interest of as many age groups as possible. We distributed it to student groups, advertising groups from the Bucharest area and startup groups.

Conclusions
Being at the beginning, the impact was quite small. From the posts on Facebook, only 8 people visited the page, but on the page the people seemed interested in the idea, wanting to know more about the application. Promoting on multiple Facebook and WhatsApp groups and continuing to use ads on Facebook can increase the number of interested people and user traffic on the landing page.
Milestone 6
Milestone 7
-
For this milestone we created an MVP functional on both Android and Apple products, users
are
able to create lists with another user from their contact list that also has the
application,
create groups with multiple people or create personal lists just for themselves.
Users can create multiple lists which are of 2 types:
- Simple lists that just keep a record of the products
- Lists that track the prices of the products and calculates the amount each person has to pay
Users can add, remove or modify products inside the list. In order to have a plus compared to the existing competition we created a functionality that allows users to take or use a photo of a receipt and the application will detect the products and their prices. Then the user can add the detected products to the list or match them with existing ones on the list.
In the videos below you will see some ad banners that we added in order to research where they could be added inside the application for generating income but our MVP will be ad free.
Milestone 8
After creating our MVP we started distributing it to different groups of people we knew, using Firebase App Distribution, and asked them to use it whenever they need to create a shopping list or split a bill.
After 2 weeks we asked them for feedback and looked into some of the data from Firebase to see the chances of our MVP becoming a real product.
-
The feedback was very positive, people said they used the app for different types of cases
like:
- Keeping track of a list of products they have to buy when going shopping
- Creating a shopping list in realtime with their colleagues at work when one of them is going to the shop
- Keeping track of how much each person at the restaurant has to pay when splitting the bill
When asked about the best feature of our mvp, all of them said that the receipt scanner, even if often buggy when reading the names, is by far the best functionality, as they can just scan a receipt and then each of them takes ownership of the products they ordered.
During this period a total number of 43 people installed and used our mvp, creating different groups and lists as shown in the pictures below.
